What We’re About

The Local Growers Guild (LGG) is reaching out to farmers across Indiana. With the Indiana Farmers’ Network, the LGG seeks to connect farmers with each other, the agriculture community and the resources they need to be sustainable.

We seek to strengthen the local food economy and farmer-to-farmer connections. The Indiana Farmer’s Network gives the agri-business community an easy way to start a conversation.

Use the network to learn about farms, ask questions, be inspired or get growing! You can browse profile pages, search for specific products or visit the forum to post a question.

When you join the network you create a profile that describes your business. Anyone interested in agriculture can join. We hope members start conversations about their businesses, marketing, farming questions or seek collaborations. You can use the forum to post questions or contact members directly. We hope for a diverse group of users who represent the entire local food economy. That includes farmers, markets, restaurants, services, recreation and specialty producers.

History

This network is based on the Indiana Entrepreneurial Agriculture Directory created by SIRDP (Southern Indiana Rural Development Project). The original directory can be found at sirdp.us/entr.pdf

In 2002, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture authorized the Southern Indiana Rural Development Project (SIRDP) to document significant and promising agricultural enterprises in Indiana. The project was funded by the Tobacco Farmers and Rural Community Impact Fund.

Six years later, SIRDP partnered with USDA Rural Entrepreneurship Business Program to modernize the directory. With their funding, the Indiana Farmers Network will be an interactive resource for rural agri-business and everyone involved in the local food economy.

Now the Local Growers Guild will host the network. They already have an existing membership that represents the very group that the Indiana Farmers Networks seeks to serve.

Explore the profiles, join the network and learn about the people working to keep the local food economy strong.
